Luxury streetwear label mastermind JAPAN has partnered up with adidas Originals Consortium for one final project before they close up shop after 15 years in the game. The capsule collection, ‘BEST of adidas Originals’, features iconic Originals footwear models chosen by MMJ, reworked with their signature jet-black palette and skull and bones logo.
The range stays true to the clean lines of Originals silhouettes, pulling its focus in on the premium materials used throughout. mastermind JAPAN tackles classic adidas footwear – models much-loved by the Japanese market – such as popular running style ZX500, the basketball favourite Rivalry Hi, the classic Superstar 80s, training shoes Gazelle and Promodel CF. The collection is unified with the repetition of materials used such as soft leather, laser cut leather, pigskin suede, flocked reflective logos and bone lace jewels, though these elements are executed slightly different for each shoe model. Every pair is encased in a special black box.
The footwear collection will be available at Patta July 3rd. Given the very limited nature of this release, the collecton will be available in store first. Remaining pairs will be made available online after in store release.
ZX500 OG MMJ
ZX500, a running shoe launched in the midst of the running boom of the mid 1980s, was the beginning of the ZX series, featuring a mesh toe box built for excellent breathability. For the mastermind JAPAN version made for Consortium, the shoe tongue bears a special collaboration logo, a distinctive red outersole and a leather skull heel patch. Retail price: €180,00
PROMODEL CF MMJ
The Promodel was introduced in the 1970s as a Superstar high-cut model. MMJ has worked with the model to include Velcro straps that replace laces – one featuring the collaboration logo. The iconic shell toe and midsole is bright white against the jet-black upper. Retail price: €200,00
Rivalry Hi MMJ
First launched in 1986, Rivalry Hi was seen on the feet of many pro basketball players as the popularity of the sport soared. MMJ’s reinterpretation for Consortium features laser cut perforated leather upper, a leather skull heel patch, and bone lace jewel. Retail price: €200,00
GAZELLE OG MMJ
Gazelle, an all-round training shoe launched in 1968, was an adidas Originals icon strongly linked to football and culture. with suede upper soles, leather perforation all over and reflector flocked skulls on the heel patch, no expense has been spared on this MMJ version for Consortium. Superstar 80s MMJ
MMJ reworked the iconic Superstar 80s model in premium leather accented with pigskin suede on the striping, tongue and heel tab. The tongue carries the collaboration logo. The shell toe and midsole are clean white against the jet-black upper. Retail price: €180,00
