In line with our upcoming Asia tour we want to shine some extra light on our Asian partners that helped us. We talked with Kentaro Kuwabara of BEAMS T with whom we are going to have a pop-up shop in Tokyo.

Who are you, and where are you from? 
I am Kentaro Kuwabara, BEAMS T director from Tokyo, Japan.

What keeps you occupied on a daily basis?
My family and work keeps me busy all day!

When, where and how was the first BEAMS store established?
It was founded in Harajuku, Tokyo in 1976!

BEAMS has a lot of different aspects to its name, but what do you think is the essence of BEAMS?
BEAMS has many faces to tap into different cultures and propose all around lifestyle solutions. My section is to push all aspects of current trends in casual fashion genres.

From starting in the 70s as a clothing brand and growing into an international business, what were the key moments in BEAMS’ long history?
I think that it would be good to see what we have done for the last 40 years as this video epitomises our history in a nutshell. You can see the video, HERE.

This doesn't fully represent what we have done, but it shows our mission; all about assisting and enriching fashion culture and youth culture in Japan as that is our core value of the company.

Which music artists are you currently listening to and would you recommend others?

What is your best power piece at the moment?
I love collecting T-shirts and now I have about more than 1,000, as well as shoes since I have the dedicated shelves for those items at home.

What is your favourite graphic at the moment and why?
Art. Especially Japanese street artist such as Ken Kagami, KYNE, Verdy, Koji Yamaguchi amongst others are my favorites now.

What are the must-see destinations in Tokyo?
Vibrant parts of the cities; Harajuku and Shibuya! If you walk from Harajuku to Shibuya swinging in by different stores, you can feel the Tokyo chaos. We have many BEAMS stores in that region, too.
