Second stop of our Patta 2017 Asia Tour will be in China, with Shanghai-based streetwear store and brand DOE as our partner. We had a chat with the team to get to know what keeps them busy.
Who are you, and where are you from?
We are DOE, we are from Shanghai, China.
What keeps you occupied on a daily basis?
The cool vibe with the street community concept, Himm as the co-founder of DOE has a Urban magazine which has been 15 years in China, it is the first street culture magazine and trying to educate the consumers the real culture with a Chinese point of view, it is OG, DOE is authentic and trail blazers love to hang out here and buy the cool products from DOE, people love to wear DOE to represent the China street culture.
How did the Doe store and brand come to fruition?
DOE means nobody and everybody, it’s from John DOE and Jane DOE, it is formless, align with our slogan which is Be Formless, it is really from Chinese culture to be humble, stay low key and subtle, but at the same time, it could be everything. It’s also authentic Chinese kung fu rationale, Bruce Lee has said before, his kung fu is "formless, like water."
Do you see any similarities between Patta and DOE?
They are all the representatives of their ciites and countries, and trying their best to build the culture for the local community, they are not trying to expand the business, but trying to find the right partners and consumers.
In Amsterdam we have the waistbag as a characteristic ‘fashion’ item. Are there specific items at the moment that really represent Shanghai?
Dad hat is very popular and also waistbag is a characteristic item, globalization makes everywhere similar.
Which music artists are you currently listening to and would you recommend others?
It’s very hard to say… We listen to a lot of Kendrick Lamar, among others.
What is your best power piece at the moment?
We currently launched the DOE x Levi’s Type III trucker jacket for their 50th anniversary, it is the most powerful piece, but the best is always gonna be our next piece!
What is your favourite graphic at the moment and why?
We don’t really have one at the moment.
What are the must-see destinations in Shanghai?
