In the run up to the second instalment of the ongoing Patta x Dana Lixenberg signature series, we’ll go a little in depth on the subjects in the images we have selected.
A Tribe Called Quest consists of Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and sometimes Jarobi. The critically acclaimed hiphop group formed in the mid 80's, and debuted in 1990 with their first full length album. Onwards, the group became part of the loosely formed Native Tongues collective along likeminded artists such as Jungle Brothers, De La Soul and Black Sheep. The Native Tongues family was also closely tied to the Universal Zulu Nation. Widely considered one of the most intelligent, artistic rap groups at the time, Tribe stood out with their playful, yet conscious lyrical content, as well as their frequent usage of obscure jazz and soul samples in their music. Along the way, their music inspired an upcoming generation, including J Dilla, Kanye West and Pharrell Williams.
We are honored to continue working with the wonderful Dana Lixenberg and being able to work with this particular image of one of the greatest groups in hiphop history. Each shirt is produced in limited quantities and hand-numbered. The shirts will be available in store and online Friday, January 15.
