Tonight we caught a nice preview of the Amsterdam! Ed van der Elsken exhibition before the formal opening June 6 at the Stadsarchief Amsterdam. The exhibition features van der Elsken's works taken between 1947-1970 alongside previously never-seen-before images, which all ties in with the re-release of his iconic Anthon Beeke-designed Amsterdam! book from 1979.
The new print of Amsterdam!, a joint project by Lecturis, publishing house Bas Lubberhuizen and record label Top Notch stays true to the original in terms of content, layout and design. However, more than 300 photographic negatives have been scanned and edited by the Nederlands Fotomuseum (Dutch Photomuseum), utilising today's technology to provide the best possible imagery without taking away from the original work.
For this special occasion, Patta has produced a limited edition t-shirt and long sleeve shirt, both emblazoned with Ed van der Elsken’s iconic photography and typography. Both shirts and the book will be available in store at Patta June 6 and online June 11.
The Ed van der Elsken – Amsterdam! exhibition runs from June 6 until September 14 at Het Stadsarchief.
