PATTA Q&A: BUBBLING TV 2.0

To give an insight in the bubbling culture of the late 90's and early 2000's we had a chat with a few of the guys who contributed to its success in the 90s. The guys of Bubbling TV 2.0 who where there at the start of the uprising bubbling culture. As seen in the video they where involved in the bubbling/speed bubbling battles.

Who are you, and where are you from?

Randy: My Name is Randy Telg, I’m 35 and I’m Rotterdam based.

Guillermo: I’m Guillermo babel from Rotterdam.

Ivando: Ivando contina , Rotterdam.

Anilson: Anilson Varela Frederico.

What keeps you occupied on a daily basis?

Randy: Dance, music and my company keeps me busy throughout the days.

Guillermo: I work in a chicken factory at the moment, and trying to do
some comedy.

Ivando: My work and my children.

Anilson: I work for Unilever.

How did you get into (speed) bubbling?

Randy: When I was 14 years old, 1994, I went to Imperium with my aunt.
That was my first introduction to bubbling. After that, I visited a
community center in the south of Rotterdam. At this place I completely
went in on the whole bubbling thing!

Guillermo: I went to mister bubbling and it was great!

Ivando: Through communitycenter ‘De Dam’.

Anilson: It was a hype at the time. Everybody wanted to dance and get involved.

Bubbling was very popular in the late 90's and early 2000. Do you
think it can make a comeback?

Randy: It was really populair and I think with the right approach, a
comeback is really possible.

Guillermo: Yes I know for sure it will!

Ivando: I hope it will, for the new generation!

Anilson: Back then it was very popular, but I don’t think it will make
a comeback.

Why do you think that the Airmax BW is linked to bubbling?

Randy: I think because at that time, the Air Max was just released and
the hype that came with that shoe was huge!

Guillermo: It was not only Air Max that were being worn, though the
Air Max were the shoes that you had to have back then!!!

Ivando: It was the best shoes to buy back then… I just had to have them!

Anilson: Just like bubbling, the shoe was a hype and everybody wanted
to have a pair.

Which music artists are you currently listening to and would you
recommend others?

Randy: I don’t listen to specific artists like I used to because I
search for a lot of music for the bubbling dancing I do. I do still
listen to the old school music I used to listen to back in the days,
such as The Dogg Pound, Wu-Tang, Das EFX. If you don’t know them I
would look them up if I was you!

Guillermo: Mostly reggae… To many artist to name.

Ivando: I listen to almost everything, except the Dutch rap from nowadays.

Anilson: Joey Bada$$, Lloyd Banks, I Wayne and a lot more…

What is your favourite visual at the moment and why?

Randy: I watch a lot of history stuff from Egypt on Youtube, and black history.

Guillermo: Art of Bob Marley because he’s a legend!

Ivando: Bubba, it gives me peace. It’s just something I really like.

Anilson: Artie Barksdale |II, Negash Footwear And Adidas.

What is your best power piece at the moment? (clothing, collectors item etc)

Randy: My Intro from DJ Funk.

Guillermo: My Carlo Colucci sweaters from back then.

Ivando: My ’95 Jordans and they still fit haha

Anilson: I’m not really into fashion, I mostly just wear what I like.

What is your favourite travel destination?

Randy: Surinam and the Dominican Republic.

Guillermo: Surinam, my home.

Ivando: Cabo verde.

Anilson: My home country Cabo Verde, the most beautiful country in the world!!!
