PATTA Q&A: MICHAEL DUPOUY (LA MJC)

michael

Who are you, and where are you from?
Michael Dupouy, co founder of the communication agency La MJC, author and publisher of the All Gone book. I'm born and raised in Paris, France.

What keeps you occupied on a daily basis?
I'm a true workaholic, really a true passionate. I'm lucky enough to wake up everyday and going to work with the smile. I manage my day runnning different projects for the three companies I co-own: La MJC, Club 75 and BMC Paris.

What prompted you to create the All Gone Book?
Cause I was bored by people telling me 24/7 in 2004/2005 that internet will kill paper and will be the only media in 2016. Cause the web is a fantastic tool to promote present and future, but no one is better than a book to document the past. Cause I think only a beautiful manufactured object can really pay tribute to all the projects I considered the best in street culture. I really think digital is amazing, but can totally co-exist with paper, books and magazines.

What is your best power piece at the moment? (clothing, collectors item, etc)
Super happy with the brand new 2015 version of the Undercover Lamp, now produced by Medicom Toy.

What is is your favourite graphic at the moment and why? (art, photography, videos)
I’m really into these abstract painters, artists from New York: Torey Thornton, Erik Mack, Eddie Martinez, Odessa Straub to name a few. Always a fan of artists working on shaped canvas too, and abstract shapes, like Blair Thurman, Michael Rey, or Justin Adian.

Which music artists are you currently listening to and would you recommend others?
Funny cause these days, I'm into the new Breakbot album, which is completely different from the new rap/trap generation that I listen to on a daily basis, like Kodak Black, Marcellus Juvan, Bankroll Fresh, Lil Uzi Vert, Shy Glizzy. French rap group PNL is really something you guys have to discover, and I think I can't really have a day in a the car or at the gym without listening Future or anybody produced by Metro Boomin or Zaytoven.

What is your favourite travel destination?
Tokyo and Los Angeles.

How did you get up on Patta?
Ah good question! Been a supporter since very long time, and was lucky to propose the first Patta Gel Lyte III in 2007 on We Sold Out, the website I co-created with Colette. Always a pleasure to work together, from the signings of the All Gone book in Amsterdam, or the first ever jacket made for Club 75, and produced by Patta. We are from the same generation and we have a lot of things and friends in common, and we share same visions on many things too.

You can catch Michael at the official Amsterdam All Gone book launch this Saturday, February 6 at Vice Amsterdam, between 19:00 and 22:00. The latest All Gone book plus collector sets will be available for purchase on location and you have the opportunity to get your personal copy signed by the author. First 30 people who purchase the 2015 book or collector set also receive a guestlist spot for the official All Gone afterparty at Bitterzoet, Amsterdam on the same evening. In case you're not headed home first, Bitterzoet has lockers to keep your purchase safe!
