In the lead up to his new album 'We Doen Ons Best', we had a little chat with Murda about who he is and what keeps him busy.

Who are you, and where are you from?
My name is Önder Dogan, but people often call me Murda a.k.a. Yung Murky. I'm a Turkish man born in Holland, and I've lived in Spain and in Turkey for a couple of years.

What keeps you occupied on a daily basis?
My work keeps me pretty occupied daily. I'm always in the studio. Aside from that, my girlfriend keeps me occupied, and my family and friends do as well. Trying to balance my attention for all of those things is a full time job.

How did you start making music?
I started making music with my good friend Hairo. I met him via SpaceKees, who was already active in the Dutch Hip-Hop scene. I used to always watch Kees record at his house in Eindhoven, and then one day I met Hairo there while Kees was shooting a video for his first single "Ik Wil Een Meisje". Hairo and I kind of bonded that day listening to Sean Price's "Monkey Barz" album. Just hanging around friends that were busy with rap and making songs led to me eventually getting into it myself. I was always a student of the culture, so it was only right for me to one day become a part of it.

What was your first favourite song? (that you remember)

The first songs that really had me hooked on Hip-Hop were:
1. Wu-Tang Clan - Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing ta Fuck Wit
2. Bone Thugs N Harmony - Crossroads
3. The Notorious B.I.G. - Juicy

I can't remember which one I heard first, but I can definitely remember being all the way into Wu, Bone and Biggie. Biggie ended up being one of my biggest influences.

Why 'We Doen Ons Best'?
'We Doen Ons Best' means 'We're Doing Our Best'. I made this album with all of my friends. I made this album with all of my fans, my family, my girl. It's been a process that has been inspired by everything around me, constantly striving to be or do better. For those reasons that title. This one is for everyone, we did it together. We did our best!

What is your best power piece at the moment? (clothing, collectors item etc)
2 years ago Patta and I made a shirt for my EP called "Goeie Dingen" and I can't even lie, I was and still am really proud to have been able to colaborate with my brothers on something that ended up doing well! At this moment right now I'm proud of my album "We Doen Ons Best" in stores May 20th! I guess the next step is making something crazy with Patta again. Lets get it!

What is your favourite visual at the moment and why? (art, photography, videos)
I actually don't really like any of the new visuals out there, so I often catch myself wanting to watch old videos and get inspired by old art pieces and pictures. Everything seems so watered down these days. I sound old as shit right now. Damn.

Which music artists are you currently listening to and would you recommend others?
I listen to Future. Type that in Youtube and let the wave take you places. I'm also really into Skepta's new album. Drake obviously. Kanye forever. I'm not going to try to name some shit nobody knows to sound mad interesting either. I listen to what's hot! Lol. A young'n of mine put me on Famous Dex. I fucks with that. Other than that I listen to artists from Holland. Ronnie Flex, Kid de Blits, Def Major, Jonna Fraser, SFB, Broederliefde, Hef and many more!

What is your relationship with Patta and when/where did it start?
My relationship with Patta is a family ting! Gee and Edson are my OG's. They both showed me love early in my career and gave me a spot on their Patta Mixtape. I used to shop at Patta before they ever knew who I was, and I used to always look up to how they built their brand and turned it into one of the most influential names in the Dutch culture and fashion. I feel privileged to be a part of their small circle of artists they fuck with. I'll be repping Patta forever! Thanks for all the love and support throughout the years. Love Up!
