Thijs Kauffmann is a Dutch artist who lives and works in Amsterdam and Gothenburg. His work reflects the world around him; thoughts, ideas and experimentation result in painting, photography and sculpture. He is a Rietveld Academy Alumni and got his masters degree at the Sandberg Institute. Kaufmann has exhibited his work in various places such as the W139, Stigter van Doesburg and the Gemeente Museum Den Haag.
For the paintings of his solo exhibition at the Allard Wildenberg Art Projects, Kauffmann hiked along the Swedish west coast, taking with him his canvas and beeswax. By tightly covering the rocks with this canvas and applying the hot wax, he captured the structure and texture of the rocks in the same way a photographer makes a contact print. These prints he then further developed in his studio with paint to finish the work. These works have inspired Patta to work together with Thijs Kaufmann on a capsule collection.
The Patta x Thijs Kauffmann Capsule Collection consists of a hooded sweatshirt and 2 t-shirts, all featuring Kauffmann’s unique patterns in blue and grey variations. The shirts come with subtle Patta chest embroidery and label, while the hooded pullover sweater features a large kangaroo pocket and is emblazoned with a large red Patta script logo. The Patta x Thijs Kauffmann Capsule Collection will be available in store at Patta Amsterdam, London and online at patta.nl this Saturday, November 19.
