Who are you, and where are you from?
I am Marvin, 25 years old and moved from the north of Germany to Amsterdam about three years ago.
What is your relationship with Patta and when/where did it start?
I got to know Patta through reading streetwear and sneaker magazines. Reading about the guys' motivation for starting this brand and seeing their passion being reflected in the projects they are involved with, triggered something in me back then. With my personal motivation to work creatively and being able to stand behind the work that I am doing, I started to identify more and more with Patta and made them an inspiration for me - especially when it comes to staying true to yourself and doing your own thing.
What is your function in Patta?
During my time at Patta, I have worked in various fields ranging from sales associate to product photography. At this stage, I am working on a more operational level which includes tasks in the fields of logistics management, distribution as well as website maintance.
What keeps you occupied on a daily basis?
Trying to make sure that things are running smoothly, keeping an overview of upcoming projects and coordinate things between the warehouse and our two stores in Amsterdam and London.
Which music artists are you currently listening to and would you recommend others?
In general, I enjoy listing to some more experimental and weird stuff of which I put some in the playlist because it appears more interesting to me. Check out Princess Nokia. She is a NY girl with an autonomous personality which I appreciate - even though she propably doesn't give too much of a f**k about my opinion. Same goes for SMIB, an/the Amsterdam based collective that includes music artists such Ray Fuego, Yung Nnelg, GHQST, KC and more sincerely talented artists, each with their own personal style.
What is your best power piece at the moment? (clothing, collectors item etc)
Before I started working for Patta, my girlfriend got me a ticket for a raffle that Patta had for their 10th anniversary, and I won one of the limited Converse x Patta CT AS 70. They are kind of a holy grail to me which doesn't keep me from wearing them since they are Converse and there to be worn.
What is your favourite visual at the moment and why? (art, photography, videos)
Whenever graduating from high school, a teacher of mine who I respected a lot, let us choose from a selection of his analog photographs that he had been taken as a hobby. The picture I selected was taken during a trip to Mexico near the border between the US and Mexico.
The picture has accompanied me ever since and reminds me everyday that one will have to worker harder than others - especially if you want to stay independent and be respected for doing your own thing.
