Having shot the last 7 installments of the Patta #SSS Editorial in European cities, Art Directors Ace Dia and Violette Esmeralda decided to honor Curaçao: A Caribbean island with a longstanding connection to The Netherlands and the Dutch cultural landscape.

For this they found their perfect match in Gilleam Trapenberg, a young and driven Curaçao native currently finishing his photography degree at the KABK in The Hague. His personal projects focus on the image culture surrounding masculinity in the Caribbean. When asked for this editorial it seamlessly blended with this work, though from a perspective that explores Caribbean femininity. A key aspect of his approach, Gilleam dissolves boundaries between fashion and documentary photography, and is glad to have been able to collaborate with his homeland in this way. The beautiful island of Curaçao was part of the Netherlands Antilles until they were dissolved as recently as 2010. It has an incredibly rich mix of cultures, resulting in a truly unique multilingual and -ethnical place. After Gilleam has thoroughly showed us around the island, we can safely add we have met some of the most amazingly inspiring women there. Curaçao, thank you for having us.

The Patta Summer collection will be available in Patta stores London & Amsterdam and also online at patta.nl on Friday May 5.
