Patta proudly presents the fourth instalment in the ongoing t-shirt series in collaboration with Dana Lixenberg.
Amsterdam-born and New York-based Lixenberg studied photography at the London College of Printing and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Lixenberg has exhibited extensively, several books of her work have been published and over the years she has received countless commissions from publications, such as Vibe, The New Yorker and Time. Previously released t-shirts from the series include The Notorious B.I.G., Tupac Shakur, Noam Chomsky, A Tribe Called Quest, PJ Harvey and Master P.
The series continue with Dana’s portrait of critically acclaimed musician Aaliyah in an industrial area of Detroit, nearby a rehearsal studio in January, 1995 for ID magazine. Aaliyah had just turned 16. Lixenberg was immediately impressed by the artist's apparent talent and focus. She seemed very much in charge of her own sound as well as the choreography of her dancers. A true prodigy.
The second shirt features American poet Allen Ginsberg in 1995 at his modest apartment in the East Village, New York, in an old tenement building for a Dutch magazine. He was alone and very much himself, which made the shoot a quiet and intimate affair.
The Patta x Dana Lixenberg shirts featuring Aaliyah and Allen Ginsberg are the fourth set of a signature collection of ten t-shirts featuring iconic personalities photographed by Lixenberg, curated by Patta. Both shirts will be available at Patta Amsterdam, London and online on Friday, December 30.
