Over the years there has been plenty of confusion and turmoil regarding the "Godzilla" franchise. There has been the failed American adaptation of "Godzilla" from 1998, directed by Roland Emmerich. Gareth Edwards' "Godzilla" from 2014 had it's moments, but also missed the essence of a true "Godzilla" film. Combined, that's almost 300 million dollars wasted efforts to successfully bring back the King of the Monsters. As "Godzilla" is one of the most recognizable symbols of Japanese popular culture worldwide, it's only right that its rightful owner Toho Studios reboots with a modern take. The new "Godzilla" movie will be co-directed by anime legends Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi. "Shin Godzilla" is the 29th Godzilla film produced by Toho (and the 31st film in the Godzilla franchise). "Shin Godzilla" is expected to hit Japanese theaters this summer, then reach western shores as "Godzilla Resurgence" later this year.
