The legendary animation film studio Studio Ghibli returns with new work for the big screen. "The Red Turtle" is Studio Ghibli's first foray into co-production, partnering with Wild Bunch and directed by London-based animator Michaël Dudok de Wit in his feature film debut. The 80-minute, silent full-length feature tells the story of a stranded sailor who tries to escape from a deserted island when a mysterious woman turns up out of the sea, along with a giant red turtle. Since the film has virtually no dialogue, the strong visuals and artistic direction take the lead in telling the story.
The Red Turtle will debut at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18 and hit theatres in September 2016. Watch the trailer below.
