One thing that sets the city of Tokyo apart from the rest of the world is how the light illuminates the city at night. Throughout the years, this dreamlike dystopian atmosphere has been captured in paintings, photographs, film and animation, especially by the likes of Katsuhiro Otomo and Hayao Miyazaki, among others. Inspired by these surrealist scenes, self-taught photographer Masashi Wakui wanders the streets at night with high-performing compact cameras like the RX100 and Ricoh GR to capture compositions of nighttime cityscapes and transform them with unique coloring effects to create an atmospheric tone.
