CAN’T BE GREEDY… YOU GOTTA TAKE SOME, AND LEAVE SOME’
(James Brown, 1973)
Het HEM’s opening Chapter tells the story of Edson Sabajo and Guillaume Schmidt, known for their successful streetwear and lifestyle brand Patta. As creative entrepreneurs, they use their success to make a social contribution. Their involvement in the world of music, fashion, art and lifestyle is reflected in this Chapter - featuring a group exhibition, Boxing Clinic and public programme - which is above all a story about generosity and a positive attitude. James Brown’s motto weaves a common thread through the chapter, which explores the nature of culture as something that is fluid and passed from one person to another.
The exhibition consists out of Michèle Aboro, Quentley Barbara, Sanford Biggers, Roxette Capriles, Victor Crezée, Aria Dean, Menno Kok, Gabriel Lester, Erik van Lieshout, Dana Lixenberg, Neo Matloga, Terence Nance, Navid Nuur, Rich Medina, Piet Parra, Ebony G.
