Murkage Dave - Please Don't Move To London It's A Trap

Singer-songwriter Murkage Dave drops the video for his new single, 'Please Don't Move To London It's A Trap', directed by Marco Grey. The video gives us a front-row seat as Dave’s inner battles play out before our eyes: the tug of war within the Londoner who loves his city, whilst also succumbing to its darker forces. We flip between filtered scenes broadcasted across social media to everyday reality highlighting the vast disparity between on and offline living. The poetic lyrics are reflected in each shot as the dull tones mirror his emotions and highlight the side of the city that is hidden within plain sight.

After a brief hiatus, Dave returned last month with his double-sided single accompanied by ‘Awful Things’ featuring US pop visionary Caroline Polachek. Both singles have been celebrated by his supporters as well as respected tastemakers at press and radio, confirming that Dave’s poignant writing and satirical humour is in high demand within the UK scene and beyond. 'Please Don't Move To London It's A Trap' sparked a wave of valid reactions and emotions across the capital, it’s honesty shedding light on some of society’s biggest issues.
“I find that people either paint London as some kind of warzone, like there’s missiles going off every minute, or they want to airbrush out all the crud on some Hugh Grant shit like everyone is just sitting around drinking organic wine in Michelin star restaurants. I’d rather just say it as it is, it may not be as pretty a picture or maybe it doesn’t fit the stereotype that some might like to consume but I feel like I've gotten closer to the truth, which is all I know how to do. Leytonstone born and raised, Dave has the rich musical DNA of a Londoner who has been brought up on Garage, Hip-Hop and R&B. He also spent the majority of his formative years in Manchester which played a big part in shaping his distinct sound, referencing the likes of The Smiths and Joy Division as influential figures.
Throughout his career, he’s worked with the likes of Mike Skinner, Jaykae and Skepta, whilst most recently having the honour of working with Trip-Hop pioneer Tricky on his collaborations album and LA Rap veteran Evidence. With ‘Murkage Dave Changed My Life’ he received co-signs from Pharrell Williams, Young Fathers, Iggy Pop and Beastie Boys member Mike D as well as going on to sell out his debut UK headline tour. Now following up with his sophomore album, the anticipation for new music builds daily and much to his fans' delight there is a sense that Murkage Dave is back.
