Founded in 1916 by Finnish company Ab Sports Artiklar, Karhu is without a doubt a brand with a long line of heritage. In Finnish, the word Karhu means bear. The strength and reliability of the footwear correlates closely to its namesake's physical attributes. The brand is also famous for trademarking the three stripes logo which they later sold to adidas.
The Karhu Synchron model made it debut in 1980. As the years went by and the Karhu catalogue grew, the Syncron has remained a staple. This is due to its unique lacing system and options in colourways. The 1990's saw the introduction of the silhouette we know today as the Karhu design team decided to upgrade the materials used and create an all round comfortable athletic shoe with reinforced heel cap and an improved air cushion unit.
