Founded in 1949 by Kichahiro Onitsuka as Onitsuka Co., Ltd, the Japanese brand produced basketball shoes at first, but quickly expanded to different types of athletic footwear throughout the 50's, 60's and 70's.
In 1977, Onitsuka merged with GTO and Jelenk to forge ASICS. An acronym for "Anima Sana in Corpore Sano", which translates to "A Healthy Soul in a Healthy Body". As one of Japan's biggest sportswear companies, ASICS continues to play a big part in the sneaker industry with their Gel sneaker lines. They were also one of the first companies to work together with Patta on a footwear collaboration.
The ASICS GEL-1090 running shoe has been reimagined for the modern aesthetic, while retaining its signature design details. Inspired by the design lines of a motorcycle, the shoe emphasises the idea of speed. The upper has been simplified from its original design but it maintains its influential tiger claw markings seen on the the toe cap and heel.
