The latest Converse First String collaboration is a very refreshing one, being that it’s not within the realm of fashion, but one with the wonderful Ace Hotel. The free-spirited and modern bohemian vibe of the hotel has been nicely reinterpreted on the shoes. They feature a laser etched white leather upper, accented with premium nubuck sitting atop a cream white sole. Each pair includes additional laces and a co-branded dust bag. Footpatrol and Le Coq Sportif have joined forces again bringing you another rendition of the Eclat after their successful first collaboration on the shoe in 2012. This time around the people at Footpatrol have aimed for a more luxury edition of the Eclat by taking inspiration from France’s most famous confectionary creation the Macaron. The Macaron Eclat colourway is a direct reference to the flamboyant colour palettes of the French pastry and is made up of a pig-skin suede upper, super soft satin lining with metallic gold highlights and a gum outsole. In 1969, when the Superstar was first unleashed, NY was beginning to establish itself as the epicentre of graffiti culture. As the volume, detail and size of graffiti tags grew over the subsequent decade-and-a-half, so did the status of the Superstar. Originally championed solely by top-level ball players, but the iconic shell toe shoe eventually transcended the court, making its way onto the streets and becoming a part of youth culture. In the early 80s, the worlds of grafitti and hip-hop began to become intertwined as they both started to make mainstream waves.
