This year for Record Store Day, Patta got together with Washington DC based artist Davon Bryant-Mason, aka Dreamcast, to produce a vinyl-only, three-track 7" record and an exclusive t-shirt.
Record Store Day 2020 was planned for April 18th, but has now been been postponed until June 20th. As that day looks like it’s at the mercy of a whole host of factors as well, we decided to roll ahead as planned anyway, and share these much needed, lush sonic vibrations with you all to bump whilst in lockdown.
The A-side is ‘Cycles’, a 7min sci-fi odyssey of a banger for rap fans and Blade Runner fans alike. The flip side starts with ‘Complicated’ a low-slung futuristic R&B ballad for those 4am moments in the dark, and closes with ‘Tempo’, a modern soul classic for the freaks. The record, over three tracks played at 33 rpm, gives you a perfect slice of what makes the DC-based NTS resident such an exciting artist right now and puts him on most peoples Ones To Watch list. If you like funk, boogie, soul and rap that sounds like it was made for a Hollywood Sci-Fi Romance critics choice award… Pull up.
The t-shirt bears a cartoon-like character created especially for this project by Patta Creative Director Vincent van de Waal, with the 7" track-listing and double branding adorning the back.
This is a truly collaborative effort, with music by Dreamcast, co-A&R’ed by Kazim Rashid and Patta. This record will not be available anywhere else or digitally. This record is limited to 300 copies worldwide.
