Patta and Nike announce a new Air Max 1 and film series, The Wave, debuting in October. Follow the wave over on

Patta and Nike unite once again to collaborate and deliver a new Air Max 1, launching October 8th and a new film series, The Wave, debuting October 4th.

The Patta x Nike Air Max 1 is inspired by the authentic connection between the Amsterdam-based brand and the Air Max community. The latest collaboration draws from the original Air Max 1 silhouette and adds a twist through a new wave pattern and mini Swoosh on the mudguard, while Patta’s logo appears on the tongue and sock liner.

The Wave films and sneaker embellishment are thematic references to the cultural shifts and enduring influence that Patta has had on its greater community and industry. As a black-owned, independent business based in Amsterdam for over 17 years, Patta has not only developed a following for its influence in street- and sportswear, but in seizing an opportunity to create spaces and empower young people through the Patta Running Team.
Most recently, the Patta Foundation was founded to foster youth cultural education and aspiring entrepreneurs. It is through this spirit and union of purpose and product that the Patta x Nike relationship has evolved, and a new chapter is born.

“We’re excited to launch the Air Max 1 and The Wave as the ignition point for a more purpose-driven evolution in our partnership with Nike. Product will always remain a thread of what we deliver, and together, we’re committed to developing nuanced projects and narratives that aim to truly serve and drive change for our community,” says Gee Schmidt, co-founder of Patta.

To bring the release to life, Patta and Nike produced four short films directed by burgeoning filmmaker, Mahaneela who worked under the mentorship of critically acclaimed UK Filmmaker Steve McQueen. The Wave films are broken into four chapters that explore the themes of freedom, creativity, and truth within the Patta community, as they ebb and flow through cultural landscapes of style, music, fashion, and sport. The films were produced by McQueen’s production house, Lammas Park.

“Since I started making films and photography, my work has always been about finding ways to show love to people that look like me. Patta are a great example of how creativity can manifest into authentic relationships and give back to the people and places we are from. For many young Black and Brown filmmakers, Steve McQueen and his legacy have been somewhat of a north star for us. To be able to collaborate with him on this project, which for me is a love letter to my fellow creatives of colour, has been unforgettable,” says Mahaneela.

“I’m proud to be working with Nike and Patta, a black-owned company who have always been about supporting interesting black talent, in bringing new emerging voices like Mahaneela to the broader wider public for this exciting collaboration,” says Steve McQueen.

The Patta x Nike partnership began in 2008 with an Air Max 1 collaboration. This is the 7th Patta x Nike collaboration, and the 5th reinterpretation of the Air Max. To shop the Patta x Nike Air Max 1, visit, and Patta stores from October 8th; select retailers and SNKRS to follow from October 15th.
