Hip-Hop is in Patta’s DNA - all the way back to the formative moments that took place in Amsterdam’s Fat Beats record store when the Patta co-founders would meet over a love of sample searching, crate digging and turntablism. For our Autumn/Winter 2022 collection, we focused on the heritage of one of the Patta founders, Edson Sabajo. Patta has been built through the years around his identity and his unique style and this collection is no exception. By taking design cues from the aesthetics of his younger years in Amsterdam as well as his fascination with New York City to create from a place of heritage.
Everything that we do here at Patta reflects back to the four pillars of Hip-Hop; in our Autumn/Winter 2022 collection, we kept graffiti a focal point of the story we want to tell. Calling on infamous Amsterdam style Kings who are close to the Patta family to provide the most authentic throw-ups, tags and pieces we could have hoped for. Getting back to the essence of an art form that we love in order to pay respect to those who have built up this scene from the ground up. The language of the streets has gone on to take many forms since then but clear paths back to the origins of Hip-Hop can still be traced. Further tributes to the period in the late 80s in which our founders grew up can be seen in our contemporary takes on vintage shapes and styles that are now considered streetwear staples such as Army Surplus Jackets, Premium Knitwear and Puffer Jackets. Adorned with multicolour graphics inspired by artwork from comic books, record sleeves and cereal boxes, this latest collection dives deeper into the cultural exchange we have been championing this year so far.
Behind each element, is a story waiting to be told about where we came from so we can know where we are going. Through creating safe spaces to collaborate, we have been able to share our ideas, customs, traditions, knowledge and history to break free from the dogma and create our own zeitgeist.
The Patta AW22 collection’s first drop will be available Friday, July 22nd at 13:00 CEST at patta.nl, on our mobile app as well as in-store at Patta Amsterdam, Patta London and Patta Milano.
